Neighborhood Observations
Across Lents and East Portland, we want safer, more walkable streets for all of our neighbors. Here are some quotes from neighbors who live outside of our current focus area, or who have general comments about what we’re trying to achieve here.
“I regularly see families pushing strollers in the middle of the street down Ellis between 82nd and 92nd. The sides of the road have large holes that make it nearly impassable, especially when it rains.”
—Kate Ellis from 82nd–92nd
“128th from foster to Romana needs a sidewalk!! So many young children walking to school in the street.”
—Mikki'
“The Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Area projects brought more people to Lents, and hasn't addressed the needs for pedestrians, cyclists, people with mobility devices and families! Let's invest in the safety of Lents' streets for people!”
—Laurel, Portland
“I would like to see more Portland green streets bioswales installed at intersections to help narrow streets and reduce vehicle speed while adding more vegetation to our neighborhood. Not sure how to go about it though. It would seem helpful if we could install round-a-bout barriers like the ones north of division street on 30th ave.”

“So many people roll or outright gun through the stop sign at 97th and Ellis and there's kids out there all the time, especially now that the weather is getting nice. I'd love to see more traffic-calming measures.”
—Mary, 97th and Ellis
“We need to slow our streets and make sure the priority is safety for neighbors and community members, not moving freight and vehicle traffic as fast as possible!”
—Robin, Portland
“I want to be able to safely walk around in my neighborhood with my child!”
—Caitlin, 97th and Cora
